There is an existing standard 600x450 drain cover in back garden. Was going to fit a normal rectangle recessed cover but laying out I can see loads of cutting as the blocks (Marshalls 50mm Driveline Elite) will have the centre of a 2.9m circle kit directly above it. Now if I remove the centre and first row of bricks from the circle I'll have a 450mm "hole".
It would actually look quite good with a galv or black plastic cover then forming the "bullseye" of the pattern.
Fitting a 450 circle cover over a 600 x 450 shaft would be easy as I could build up and corbel the bricks.
Only problem is I haven't been able to find a 450 diameter cover where the edge is at least 50mm deep to allow for blocks up against it. Any product suggestions or anyone else see anything wrong with this idea ?

cant you use a piece of circular IC riser to raise it up say 150mm?
nice lateral thinking there
maybe you could get the cast cover stove enamelled or summat?

Circular recess tray covers can be manufactured to order. You often need pockets as deep as the chamber covered by the tray!

a mate of mine got a quote for an extra shallow recessed tray something like 55 mm,i forget what it was but it was cheaper for him to get one made by a welder

I put a load of 50 ml recessed in at gatwick airport. They are heavy duty and they slid out only one way, had arrows on them to show which way to pull them. they are for concrete infill and weigh very heavy. You put a scaf pole on the end you are lifting and roll the lid out on that.

Moaning to a metal bashing mate of mine about this and he said he could knock something up to my design. Picked it up today, 'tis fabulous. Heavy galv steel. Just trimmed a few mm off the first ring of 16 blocks... well a picture paints, here you go:

It was done at mates rates but didn't take much material or time so shouldn't cost an arm and a leg if you shop around.
Only downside of course is it's not officially rated to a number of tonnes which might be an issue in some applications but it is strong, the lip under the circular bit is about 30mm and the base is 8mm plate. You could park a tank on it ! Those nice Marshalls people give you an option of a different centre with a Firebrick circle which surrounds the lifting eye beautifully.
