Hello all. Ive been lurking around her for some time and have found the info here really useful. I,m doing my own drive at the moment (about 100 square mtrs) and have just finished laying the sub-base. The thing is Ive got about half a ton of typw 1 left over and its occurred to me that I could perhaps use it in the mix for the concrete bedding around the edges. Can anyone tell me if this would work out ok. ??
Also while I'm here. Wills whackering near the edges and around the manholes loosen the cement, how long should I leave it to set forst.
once again thanks for setting this up its an excellent resource for us DIY ers.

Depending on the stone then it might be ok. When you talk about type 1 do you mean 1 1/2 inch down to dust or 3/4 inch down to dust. 3/4 inch would be fine but anything bigger would need removed before it was mixed. When doing posts and light footings etc I use 3/4 inch blinding it's cheaper and less hassle than having separate materials and sets harder than standard concrete.
Can't see it from my house

Type 1 is, by definition, 37.5 mm to dust. 3/4 inch to dust could not be a Type 1 aggregate.
You can make a rough-and-ready concrete using Type 1 as the coarse aggregate. It would never do for, say, a garage base or wall foundations, but it's usually good enough (if a bit lumpy) for bedding kerbs and edge courses on a residential project.
