Hopefully a break in the wet weather this weekend, so I'm intending to press on with the project. I have kept tarps over the ground to try and keep most of the water off... the swimming pool looks good!

My question is :

Now that I have edged with soldiers on all 4 sides, I have a narrow strip to pave that's effectively 6mx1m, so I have a relatively small/medium sized Wackerâ„¢ plate compactor so that I can move it about within the edgings.

The foundation(?) level varies in some places due to soft clay which I have removed, so the overall depth varies between 120mm - 170mm. I am using Type 1.

Given that Tony says smaller plates are not really up to the job of sub-base compaction, would anyone recommend doing it in two layers?

is it better to get the first layer down, compact 'fully' before adding second layer to 'bedding' level?
or just chuck the whole lot in and wack it til your arms ache?

any advice appreciated
Darren

You could do, but bear in mind the twice-the-minimum-particle size recommendation, so each layer should be not less than 80mm or so, as far as possible.
