Hi
I am just starting a new project to lay block paving at home, I am paving at the front of my house approx 20ft by 8ft,
I have been down to my local materials supplier to cost out my materials and they have priced me per ton for the stone and sand
I am afraid I am lacking in my knowledge of how much coverage I will get per ton (I know you are probarbly thinking typical woman!!)
after reading the main website I know that I need to have a 75 - 100mm stone course and 40mm sand as the path will be for foot traffic only can anyone help me to convert this into tonnes please

hi ange there are calculators on main site. think you will need 3.2 ton stone/type. 1.2t of sand and 5 bags of cement

you have approx 18 m2
stone at 100mm thick means you need 1.8m3 of stone ,so this equates to around 3 tonne of stone,1.5 tonnes of grit sand and 6 bags of cement
you may well have to buy 2 tonnes of grit sand (bulk bags) but its cheaper like this than to buy small bags

I have been digging up the old flags today and there is loads of stone underneath is this reusable or will it need new?

As long as the stone isnt to big you can maybe mix it with your new stuff. are you getting type 1 or crush and run? hope our gauging was'nt too confusing as the amounts were slightly different? It is best to have a little too much than not enough. good luck and post pics when you've finished.

we were in the same ballpark,at least we were in the vicinity,i didnt convert yards to M exactly so i might have been a bit out 
lol

Maths are not my strong point I am dyslexic in numbers and takes me forever to work out simple sums like that. had to give up darts because when it was my turn to mark, other peoples impatience with my subtracting would mostly end in a boxing match. :laugh:

Thanks again for this it looks like (as with everything else in my house) whoever did the original paving only did half a job as half had been laid with stone really well and deep but the other side is just soil!!
The stones that are there are quite small approx an inch all round on top but under that there are a lot smaller stones going deeper
I was going to buy crush and run
Bloody weather has put a stop to me this week its been poring down all week hope the weekend is better!
