Hi
I'm new to this website.
Just getting on to doing my front drive.
Slight problem. I have calculated the 'volume' of compacted hardcore I need by:-
Surface area m2
x 0.15 (final depth m)
x 1.5 (compaction factor - is this correct?)
but I do not know how much to order by tonnes.
Seemed easy when I started, but getting the amount right now seems very difficult. Does the basis for calculating the volume make sense, and is there a simple conversion factor to get from volume to weight?
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Many thanks

Everything you need is here:

Roughly it's volume in m3 x 2 = tonnes

:)

I was tapping away on my PDA - takes a bit longer, otherwise I'd have been a bit quicker.

I used the calculator to convince me that ordering 20 tonnes of MOT was ok...and you know what??? It worked it out perfectly.

Guess what? I ordered 14 tonnes and had half-a-tonne surplus.
Good calculator indeed. Great site this. Screeding next :( Another challenge.
