Hi,

I would like to use pitch / bitumen to point 300 sq m of random sandstone setts.

Having no experience, I am wondering if it it possible to use pitch on paving with moderate gradients (for example 25 cm fall over 6 meters). I am concerned that the pitch will overflow the joints as I get to the higher points.

I have tested cement and dye, but it stained the paving and I want something that will stay dark after a few years. I also looked at mixing in black volcanic sand, but at Â£30 for 25kg that will be costly!

Pitch jointing on 300m of setts will be painful both time and money-wise.

Mortar dyes dont last.

If you want a dark finish you could use a premixed product like easipoint, larsen gpm or use a resin mortar like rompox D1/ gtfk /nexus

pitch IMHO is a bleeding nightmare

unless you use plain old sand and cement (tried and trusted way)
anything else is going to cost Â£Â£Â£

dye is a waste of space and will fade in 6 months

I would use 3:1 sharp sand cement and after testing the stone acid wash it clean after

300m2 of setts jointing, that's one hellua job! Pour the bitumen at the right temperature/viscosity and it is possible but you need to be very skilled (and expect to have the odd overspill!)

Thanks chaps,

I have decided to go the 'easy' sand and cement route. I have found a supplier of black granite sand and will mix it in in as small quantities as possible to darken the mortar.

Will post a pic of how it turns out!
