Hi,

Im doing a block paving project and its nearly finished except for one thing. After the block went in it started raining and its got into the grit sand bed. The kiln dried sand is in now but when I go to bed in the blocks with the wacker plate its bringing up water at the bottom of the drive (its on quite a steep gradient).

Theres been a lot of rain lately and its set to carry on. Am I ok to bed the blocks in with the wacker even if a bit of water comes up at the bottom or should it be left to dry out (this could be a very long time)

Cheers, Al

if the bedding course is that wet then surely the kiln dried sand got wet on installation???
i have seen this before mate and TBh i would wack it now and come back when its a bit drier and resand and wack it again
if you dont wack it now, there will be untold problems as i am sure you know
cheers LLL :)

Thanks for your reply LLL :D

Just to make sure Ive got you...

When you say resand later, you mean top up the jointing sand and give it another few passes, right? Not install a new grit sand bed? (I hope LOL!)

Cheers mate!

Oh yeah, also, do you think the block will end up all over the place level wise cos of wacking on the wet bed?

Cheers, AL :)

you will be glad to know that im sure LLL meant finish compacting the whole area, then once its dried out re-sand the paving and give it another few passes to force the kiln dried sand into the joints, and dont worry im sure he didnt mean lift all the paving and start again lol :)

yes ,of course just redo the kiln dry bit later (prolly march :) )
the bedding sand will get wet sooner or later so as long as it is compacted it should be no problem

Excellent thats what I hoped you meant mate, its just ive never seen water come up like that before i thought maybe the bed would need re-doing. It turns into a little bit of a water feature at the bottom of the gradient when the wacker goes over it!! It freaked me out a bit :O

Its gettin wackered tommorow and ill go and top it up when the weather picks up a bit! :)

Thanks for the help, AL
