We had our drive done last october - cobble sett edging with a gravel infill.

We've got a baby now and i'm thinking into the future - would be a good idea to get the gravel up and tarmac laid so that she has something to ride her bike etc around on when she gets to that age.

How much do you reckon it'd cost to do that? Id want the cobble edging saving.

Its 64sqm. Our driveway bloke dug down to 300mm and laid 100mm of compacted type 1 hardcore. (I've no idea what that means but thats what the quote said!)

Ta very muchly!

Haha, that's well stupid of me! I was just putting what the quote said though.

I reckon there's 500mm of gravel.

do you not mean 50mm natajane?
500mm is nearly 2 feet thick your car would sink!

around £50 per/metre in beds for 50mm base and 20 mm top coat

Yes that's what I meant.

My only excuse is that the baby doesn't sleep... ;)

That's not as cheap as I thought. You reckon boll paving is any better?

He did quote £5.5k to block pave it initially in plaspave. Wondered if the groundwork already done would save much off that?

Boll paving.....very expensive stuff ive heard

5.5k is about right depending on where you live for a full construction jobby.

Off the top of my head, assuming you could use the existing edges as restraints and the subbase, 1.5-2k to block it.

Completley unrelated to the OP but this thread got me thinking.....does anyone remember that lass that came on here looking for advice about her drive, and the thread was hillarious?

She was on about planting a big tree in front of her window to stop the bloke next door looking through her window?

If you think that's hilarious, you should see some of the ones that come in via email!

Last night, the enquirer has a garden which she's measured at 42 inches by 18 inches (I'm guessing she actually means feet!) to be tarmacked and will I install a bath and shower while I'm there? She has 2 grand to do it all, including supply & fit the bathroom plus pave some unmeasured paths around the house and garden. And it's in Essex.

I won't be putting in a quote.

its a relatively small area dave
all the plant and the blokes still have to go and do it
we have had 200M2 done for £35 a metre but scale makes a difference

Agree; I was referring to my supply & lay rate, not full con.

Different rates in the smoke I guess.

I did a 40m2 job last week and charged £30m2 (50mm base 30mm top).
When i gave them the bill they went crazy saying it was far too much....
