I have a 85 sq metres which I need to excavate to a depth of 200mm in order to then lay sub-base, bedding sand and blocks.

I'm assuming that I should excavate this lot into skips but I have never used skip companies before.

What size do skips come in and what size will I need?

Also, how long are they generally left at the property for as I don't really have room for one for longer than is needed (1 day to excavate sound about right?)

Cheers

Have a look here for some of the rules and all of the skip sizes. Few suppliers will have them all though. You can generally keep them for as long as you want (within reason). You phone when you want them to change it. (btw cash (or cheque) on delivery is the norm.

Think too about gettin a man with a digger and a tipper in. Cost pretty much the same as hiring mini digger etc. but a lot less trouble. Then have a small skip to take the rubbish (broken blocks, bags, etc.)
