Am well on the way towards laying 60mm concrete paviors on a fairly steep driveway with a generous cross fall. Your excellent site has answered all my queries to date bar 1. Many thanks. I have reached the bedding sand stage (intend to use your "full" precompaction method) and my unanswered concern is about the effects of rain on: ??? The sand bed if drenched before being covered with blocks.Pre or post screeding? ??? Water ingress through the leading edge. Intend laying uphill? ??? Scouring effects on the bedding sand via unfilled joints. Many thanks in anticipation of your reply and again thanks for your splendid site.

The sand should be very free draining, which means it won't retain water for more than 5 minutes or so.

Don't lay in heavy rain, and try to get a screeded bed covered with blocks before any heavy rain has the chance to disturb it. Always lay uphill and don't worry too much about water getting into the laying course - if the sand is the right stuff and the sub-base is properly constructed, any water that doesa find its way in will soon be shown the way out again.
