Hi Tony,
I recently completed a block paving job incorporating a step.
I've noticed on the main site the diagram for a step shows the risers laid on a bed of concrete and haunched and also the first course of blocks on the step next to the riser and the first course on the main body of paving next to the riser also laid on concrete.
When I completed my step I laid the risers on a bed of concrete and haunched but laid all the blocks next to the riser on either side on a standard type one sub base and sharp sand bed..
Is there any problem with the way I've constucted this step.

No problem with what you've done, Gary. I often found that the first course of blocks at the back of the riser unit was easier to bed directly onto the haunching concrete rather than keeping the haunching low and then bedding onto sand. However, as I always say, you have to find a way that works for you - as long as the completed construction is structurally sound, there's no real problem.
