Hi,have lurked for a while but need some advice on a new driveway. Having a side extension & detached garage built atm that leaves approx 50 sq Metres of driveway to resurface.

My current builder doing the extension has quoted £7000 to lay a new concrete drive with flagged pathway down to the front door & around the house (pathway approx 20M in length) accompanied by small retaining alongside to keep the new drive away from the DPC of the building.

My concerns are that using the pricing guide on this site for the laying of concrete that works out at £140 a sq Metre.I realise this price includes retaining walls and pathway.

Using the guide, basic concrete driveway at a conservative estimate would be £40 sq/M.That comes to £2000.

So for an extra £5000 I am getting a retaining wall & about 25 flag stones? Am I missing something here?

My builder is trustworthy & competent providing good value for money so far (£15,000 for detached garage & 4M X 7M side extension).I know his son as well but feel maybe he isnt experienced at laying drives or just plain doesnt want the job??

Advice appreciated

Get at least two more quotes from other builders/landscapers or paving companies. That';s the only way you'll get to know what sort of value the job really has.
