Help! Some years ago I saw a basketweave design which involved the use of 100x100 "knots" in a contrasting colour. Are these "knots" still manufactured and if so, who by? ???

I think you mean 50x50 "knots". They were manufactured by Marley paving and sold as a "Victorian Weave" pattern. Marley was bought out by TopPave a few years back, and a brief perusal of their latest catalogue shows no sign of their continued existence. The only "knot" block on offer is a 65x65 unit for use with their Penta paving system.

You could make your own by sawing/cropping 200x100 blocks, if you're desperate, or you might find a few 'old stock' in a specialist yard such as Leigh Concrete or Butterfields. It might even be worth contacting TopPave to see if they know of any old stock - they're not the most communicative of companies, I'm afraid, and have a lamentable record in answering email enquiries, but try phoning them - 01902 774143

Think Bradstone do a inset tile 150 x 150 in Blue black as part of their terracota / tile range. Depsnds which colour you want to contrast.
Or what about natural stone setts - 100 x 100 in various colours.

Many thanks to both ABILITY & TONY.

You are right Tony, thanks to your memory jog, I now recall that they were Top Pave and they were 50x50. I tried to recreate the pattern from memory using half-blocks (100x100) and it doesn't work. The thought of cutting 50x50's doesn't bear thinking about. Back to boring old herringbone. Unless one of you slicker manufacturers...........?

The pattern they used, which they called "Victorian Weave", is the same as the hopsack pattern shown on the Grass Paving page....
