I've dug too deep when making our drive. Now the top of the MOT is 130 mm below where the top of the drive should be. I've got 60 mm block pavers. Can I use a bedding layer of 70 mm or is this too deep? THe MOT is already 150mm and would rather use cheaper sand than adding more MOT.

Get some more Sub Base. You will really regret using a deeper bedding layer. it will not be cheaper when you have to lift and relay all the sunken blocks.
The maximum compacted bedding layer should be 50mm.
If you aim for 45mm and a tolerence of +-5mm you will be somehere right.
If you take the time and effort to get the preparation right, your drive will last a lot longer.

Is it possible to put your kerbs in at a lower level or place the blocks lower down the kerb?
That would reduce the amount of subase to make up.

Thanks for the quick response! I can't change the level of the drive as it meets a public road and the counsil doesn't want to lower their end. I saw some second hand block pavers for sale 80 mm thick. This might give a solution. Other wise I will buy some more MOT.
great website!

When you buy your type 1 (MOT) try and get it from a quarry direct. Also as long as the quarry is good rock (e.g carboniferous limestone or granite / basalt etc) ask for quarry waste / scalpings or chatter (depending where you are in the country). this material will have the odd bigger bit in it but in terms of performance will normally meet SHW type1 limits for clay content (which is the stuff that allows settlement and can cause heaving)
