I have recently had a paver brick patio installed by a contractor. Last night I had water leak into my basement during a severe thunderstorm that rained for hours. It is coming over the top of the concrete foundation and has already saturated a 8" half circle of my floor board.

The paver patio is actually 2" below the top of my foundation. They built in a 2 layer set of steps shaped in a half moon circle that is above the foundation of the house and 5" below my opening of my patio door. There is a gap at the back of the steps where it meets the house. It appears some of the sand is gone and water is leaking behind those bricks resting up against the wood.

What are my options? Will just adding more sand cure the problem if I pack it in there tightly? Can I add a flashing that will keep the water from falling behind the bricks? Can I add silicone at the crack?

I want to solve the problem but I don't want to do something that will detract from the beauty of my paver brick.

Please advise. Thank you.

Sorry, but as I've just written in an answer to another post, I can't comment on practices and products in your country. As it says at the top of every page, this forum is dedicated to paving and drainage in Britain and Ireland where we do things slightly differently to you chaps on the other side of the Atlantic.
