I have a 200m2 drive that I am ready to block pave in Tobermore rumbled blocks using the advice from this excellent web site (I am a first timer!). I intend to have a perimeter for decoration and to help with the screeding. The edgings don't need haunching as the whole perimeter is contained by either the house, garage or solid stone walling, but I was going to bed them in approx 50mm concrete to fix my level's.

I have just ordered the blocks and the Tobermore expert has suggested that due to my fixed boundary I don't need to concrete in the perimter edgings, but lay them direct on sand with the rest of paving, which means getting my sub base spot on with regard to slopes etc.

I would welcome advice from experienced contractors and block paving DIY'ers as to which method I should go with.

Thanks,

Simon.

Might be an idea to bed the edge course on to a concrete base, that way you have a firm fixed level on which to rest your screed board.
A sand bed is fine, but the blocks can move around as the board passes over them, especially if you have corners with cut blocks in them.
