Dear Readers
Fresh tarmac has been laid on my patch on the shared driveway, I was not consulted as decisions were made before we moved in 5 weeks ago!
I am now left with pooling on the surface and am concerned that this will not drain properly towards the soakaway in the middle of the driveway.
Part from hating this sea of black stuff and wanting to rip it up, what are my options to resolve this. The other neighbours love it and think its fine!
The Enviroment Agency have labeled us on a flood plain as it is.
Any thoughts would be mostly appreciated.
Thanks
Kate

A picture showing the pool would help.

Hi Lemoncurd
Pick attached to the left is the garage which has 1 inch wood board edging - part from that its flush and the dip is about a foot away from the garage.
Thanks

Hi there
Yeah that was 8 hours after a heavy downpour, what they have done also is raise the levels so the tarmac now meets the threshold of the garage! I also spoke to council and they say planning permission is not required under 5 square meter but anything over that has to be permeable!
So sandbags are at standby!
Yeah top pic

Hi there green hat, I decided to take it off my website! The pickie showed a very flat bit of tarmac with a puddle on it that had sat there 60% of the day, not good as we live on a flood pain and the soakaway creates a lake after a downpour, the rest of the drive does slope down towards it but this bit doesn't.
Again they have raised the drive up, flush with garage so there is no kerb we are in the corner bottom of the drive, its not a massive slope, 30 degrees or less.
???

I'm not sure what you want us to do; all I can suggest is try and get the original contractor back if you can gain their details?

Any thoughts on what's going on...
a: We are listed on a flood plain
b: The soakaway in middle of shared drive does not work properly and creates a lake when we have a downpour
c: The tarmac has been raised to threshold of garage and does not slope towards soakaway.
d: Do I really want to get back the company to rebodge again ?
So...I thought I shall wait for it to flood garage and then kick off pointing fingers!
Thanks for your replies. : )

You mention a soakaway in the Middle of the drive, but I think you are referring to a drain, which was exisiting? Sounds like the old soakaway is not doing its job and you will have to have it re done. We need pictures

The soakaway is 20 years old and shared by 2 other neighbours who are have been putting up with it for many years not working properly as I have asked them! We moved in 5 weeks ago too.
So rather than answering to them I need a long term solution for my parking area, permable paving mabye or new drain gulley put in by garage threshold leading to soakaway ? Remember the house is built on a flood plain.
Thanks : )

then i suspect a soakaway will do nothing. You need to drain to a water course or some kind of pumped system. There is info on this site all about it
