I have just looked through the site and found calculations for sand and sub-base. is there a calculation for the ammount of material excavated. i have heard various theories. i am cool with calculating the volume to be excavated but what does a cubic metre of soil/clay weigh?

by the way Cheerz for sorting out such a good source of info.

Exacavted material varoies in density according to what type of material it is and the water content. Topsoil is usually around 1.5-1.9T/m³ while sticky or boulder clay is nearer 2.2T/m³
Don't forget that soil and clay bulk-up considerably when excavated. A hole of exactly 1m³ geneartes around 1.2-1.4m³ of spoil because of bulking.

Cheerz for the reply.
I wasnt two far off the mark, usually multiplying by 2 for bulking and 1.75 for weight of m3.
