Help - I am currently having a tarmac drive laid - wider than the original. The builder has laid the hardcore (recycled stuff with wood cans and even plastic bottles in it) has edged with bricks and tells me he will now lay a layer (compacted) of scalpings and then the tarmac - the old drive to be suitably overlaid and feathered in. All information in thewebsite talks about a base tarmac layer. He tells me the scalpings do this job. Are there corners being cut here and should I insist on a proper base layer of tarmac or is he right nd the scalpings are enough.

I've already answered this question in an email.

I just love having the same question come up in my inbox and then in the Brew Cabin, because I've nowt better to do with my time. I've started to ignore questioners who inundate me with the same question - they send it to info@, to tony@, via the forms on the website, post it to the Brew Cabin, and even 'phone me. They seem to think that I'll be so moved by their plight I'll drop everything else just to help them out!
