well the marshall's contractor is is here for the 3rd go, at laying the edge course correctly, and nearly as per the refernces on this site.
he has laid the soldiers on a concrete mix (which is one some soil) and the mix is fairly dry, he intends to haunch up the side of the soldier bricks with a wetter mix tomorrow.
is that okay, to build the haunch with 2 mixes of concrete in 2 days, i am, worried about the bonding and the strength of the haunching.
also, he has laid some haunch down with no soldiers, presume he will lay the soldiers down on the set concrete tomorrow

He seems to like making life hard for himself - it's much easier to lay the edge courses and get them haunched on the same day rather than waiting for the bedding to set before adding the haunching, and thereby creating what is known as a Day Joint, a potential line of weakness.

And I can't figure out why he'd lay out bedding and then let it set before laying the edge blocks, unless he plans to use a "race" and then bed the edge blocks onto the hardened race using a mortar bed, but again, it's not half making heavy weather of a very simple job!
