thanks for an excellent website .

I have a large patio area to be done 44' x 30'. It is sloping towards the conservatory (18'9 x 9'4) which has a drainage channel around it connected to a gutter.
I have cleared the area to be done to a depth of about 6" consisting of topsoil and solid ground.

Flags to be used are B.S.Eatons 450x450 riven (450 off)

1) do i wacker plate the whole area down then add hardcore & wacker it again then add screeding 10:1 mix

2) is there a need to put down a membrane & where should it go

or do i just use a sand sub base wackered down with a screeding level on top

Both of these questions are answered in separate FAQs all of their very own because they come up time and time again....

Do I need a sub-base?

Do I need a membrane?
