I've dug out my path, put down some road stone as a sub base and then put down some washed sand! Blue cirlce mortar mix, but I can't get my woodstone log sleepers to set (I'm using them as stepping stones)! Someone please tell me where I'm going wrong! I'm DESPERATE!

I've put a mortar base (blue circle mortar mix) on the washed sand.

I've also put down some plantex between the sub base and the ground.

I am not sure why you put the washed sand down and did not put the mortar straight onto the crusher, this would give you a more stable sub base and a better surface for the mortar to stick to. if you are using a dry mortar mix then try wetting it up a bit this can give you a suction effect that will help the stone to stick to the mortar. If this still fails try using a PVA bonding agent in the mortar but i cant imagine this would be necessary.

Thanks AD!

I put the washed sand down after taking various advice from Jewson and my local builders merchant! But if you think no sand is the way to go I'll try that!

The stones are sticking to the mortar, it's the mortar that's not sticking to the washed sand (which is on top of the sub base).
