we are constructing a straight path which then goes round a 60 degree corner (approx) to join a patio. We will hopefully be using a 45 degree herringbone pattern but are a bit stuck with how to get round the corner. Is it possible and if so how? Alternatively are there any other more suitable patterns (bearing in mind our novice status!). The corner can either be a sharp turn or a curve (practicality being the driver here!)

Basically, you have two choices for a professional looking finish:
You can either maintain the bond, as shown in the left-hand example, or you can create a mitred cut-line, and keep the bond square to the edge courses, as shown in the right hand example.
There is no right and wrong - both are equally valid, and it comes down to a matter of personal taste.
The same applies, regardless of what pattern is being used. You could switch to a basketweave, and still face the same dilemma, and even the simple running bond pattern is not exempt. Here's a pic of the mitres cut-line applied to this problem when using a running bond pattern....
