Strips without joint line - Scabby joints

Setts and cobbles, tarmac, asphalt, resin systems, concrete whether it's plain, patterned or stencilled, gravels, etc.

Hi

I was working in dubai for 6 years building roads and when we laid using the paving machine the roller was kept away from the edges by about 2-3 inch so that the next strip would lay on top of the unrolled material and then when rolled it would give a seamless joint.

Now im working in the uk same job however they dont do the same here, they roll right up to the edge then lay over the rolled edge then push it off with a squeegee. The only problem I have with this is that it leaves the joints scabby and sometimes leaves a lip. I have told them how we did it in dubai but they say it will not work in the uk. who is right? and if they are right how is it possible to lay the tarmac in strips without getting the nasty scabby joints.

Thanks in advance

Your method is best,as long as the edge is still hot when you start the next strip.

as you know,in our climate this wont often be the case.
