Suitable sub base for drainage and gravel

Setts and cobbles, tarmac, asphalt, resin systems, concrete whether it's plain, patterned or stencilled, gravels, etc.

Hi Everyone,
Firstly, thanks to those who made this site, it is excellent.
I have just excavated a lot of concrete from my driveway and back of my house back to the subsoil. I would like to put gravel down and having read this site, it seems MOT Type 1 is generally best for a solid base. However, I am concerned about drainage and some people are saying get 20mm limestone instead so it will allow rainwater to drain through, others say crusher run should be fine but surely all the fines will stop drainage? There's only one rainwater drain that's suitable for all the surface water and I don't really want to overload it and would prefer natural drainage directly through the base.
I then want to cover the sub base with decorative gravel. The drive is for foot traffic only.

I suppose my questions are;
1. What sub base would you recommend in this situation?
2. Is drainage straight through the gravel and subbase wise?
3. Is 100mm enough?

Whatever thickness, bridging the DPC is not an issue.

Thank you

John

Thanks. You think that will allow enough surface water to drain? I suppose my only other alternative would be to slope it towards the lawn, which i have yet to purchase!
