I am about to resurface a patio on a house i rent out.

I have built the edging brick retainers and have infilled the old concrete with basic hardcore material. All i need do now is infill using crush and run and then whack down.

I was going to just gravel over, but have seen the resin systems and wondered if i could use this and do it myself.

I don't need a great finish, and i like the idea that the gravel will not be kicked about over time.

Around the house there is also an old tarmac path which is tired. I was going to leave this as is, but thought this could also be done in the gravel resin.

Can i hire the mixer and buy the glue and do it all myself?

no is the plain answer
it looks a simple job but it is very expensive
you can buy the resin and gravel but last time i looked it was over Â£50 per metre sq
cheaper to relay in flags

Resin surfacing, be it resin bound or resin bonded, has to be laid on to a strong stable base such as concrete or tarmac, or an open grid product like Ecogrid. So if you want to go the resin route you'll need to beef up the base.

Resin Bound products do need a solid substrate to be installed on this could be asphalt (tarmac), concrete or a honeycomb structure.
Prices for a resin bound products will vary depending on the quality of resin used, a high quality resin product should have a life expectancy of 25 years or more.
For a long term solution a high quality resin bound system (that might cost slightly more) but overall it would be more cost effective having a system that's strong, durable - built to last - easy to maintain and has no loose stone.

Small areas can be installed using DIY Kits, a lot of of customers have used them with great ease and success.
