hi folks just wondering what other peoples success rate is for winning jobs they have priced I have won only one job out of the last five priced.
I'm certainly not overpricing stuff .sometimes i think they just get curious about how much a job would cost with no intension of having it done
all my jobs are driveways or patio's, it's a bit disheartening when you've
gone to all the trouble of doing a quote and all that it entails. not to even get a reply even if it's to say no thanks!

This is a very complicated subject. Jobs are not won solely on price, but on presentation, consumer confidence, budget, personal affability and how a contractor compares to others bidding for the job.
The lowest price will not guarantee the job, not will the slickest presentation nor the creation of a mutual appreciation between customer and contractor. It's a combination of so many different factors.
However, winning 20% of jobs priced is not that bad. Yes: 80% of your efforts are wasted, but you have to look on it like a shopkeeper watching folk come into the store, browse the shelves/rails/displays, then bugger off out without spending anything. It's the game we play to win work....and do you really want to win 100% of the jobs you look at?
Back in the mists of time when I was actively working the driveweay/patio sector, I reckoned a third of all jobs I looked at were not for me for all sorts of reasons, another third were looking for something cheaper than I could (or would!) provide, and of the remaining third, if I could win one out of two, I'd consider that a fair return. That's 1 job in 6, and, in truth, we probably won about 1 job in 8 or even 1 in 10, probably because we never set out to be the cheapest, and I was quite fussy about the sort of job I wanted my gangs to take on and the sort of people I wanted to work for.
The way to look at it is: have you got 6-8 weeks' work in front of you? If you do, then no need to fret, but if you don't, have a think about what you can do to make your offer that bit more tempting.
And absolutely no point at all in wasting energy expecting enquirers to acknowledge your efforts in attending site, pricing-up, perparing a quote, and sending it out to them. The vast majority of them just don't give a toss about us!

When I started out as a young man it’s was a lot harder and I priced everything now I sound ppl out and can generally tell if there time wasters, don’t advertise but phone never stops ringing even if you tell ppl currently looking at 2022 still getting solid enquires
Price is the price, easy to be a busy fool.
Some one will always do it cheaper, far better to sit at home than have job cost you

yep agree with all that has been said, but smelling messers is a hard earned skill
1 do they ask for minute detail?
2 do they mention another far cheaper quote? but they want you to do it
3 do they get your name wrong
4 and pre covid do they offer you a cuppa?
from using this site for 15 years I always quote in detail, but refuse to nudge 1 pound on price
and I wont do a cost breakdown
I had some sherbet last week ,he said to me if you finish before 5 any day will I get a discount?
I said you won 100% discount from me,I wont be doing it
cheers LLL

I’ve had 6 enquiries this week from nice little 2 day squeeze in jobs to £500k Industrisl estate build, if people think your desperate they’ll mess with you. Like Luton any shit like that and it’s good bye, and price break down it’s like no thanks get someone else.

50% quote to invoice ratio here which I'm happy with.
Booked for the first 4 months of 2022 quite easily but I realise that it can go wrong in a very short timeframe......fingers crossed for a steady 2022 for all.

in general i like to interview clients now
they think they are picking but I am picking too
saw a guy last week and just got bad vibes from his arrogant demeanour
sent him a message
"We are unable to tender for your project, thanks for your enquiry"
