Checkatrade are now so scared of being accused of hiding bad reviews that customers are allowed to review work even if it hasn't been started. WTF!

So if you go to service a boiler and find it doesn't have a working flu so refuse to service it on the grounds of safety and the customer gets narked off you get a bad report.

Outrageous.

Its all a massive con I've never been able to justify the price of signing up I know someone got a year free but it just seems not worth it I've spoken to one person in person who had to redo alot of work over a tiny insignificant issue as they were scared of a slightly off review.
The biggest issue is these aresholes sponsor every bad builder show local radio stations but its a flawed system but unfortunately would never work if customers had to pay to get acess to reliable people

It was good when it first started we are still members but like Roger I am starting to have doubts taken there stickers off the van as I don't want to associated with some of the members in my area seen the quality of the work and its poor, the main problem is its not policed unlike the marshalls register, had one meeting in 10 years
I wish i worked outside...

we've jus lost out on a job at the factory we do a lot of work at have been there for 3 years we've got 4 jobs on currently there but was £7k tender for some 150mm high pressure valve replacements, lad who used to work for big plant hire firm has gone solo and asked to quote. he's got the work being £1k cheaper, no skin of my nose we have an excellent reputation for delivery high quality work on time safely and not causing any delays etc to production!

this job will be during easter shut down, all merchants etc will be shut down its specialist stuff 1 week order etc no carried in stock unless you are water board

if he gets it wrong the factory won't be able to run tuesday after easter and that'll be £100K a day they say (these pipes carry 2 million litres a day for cooling machines)

i wonder if he's insured and what his health and safety will be like? we are in doing a knock through on a sub station so will be interesting to see,

he's obviously keener to get his foot in the door but i don't want to win work on price i win it on quality and reputation and delivering on time.

(I've ordered some valves and bits just in case we need to rescue them) :p

I had heard about this, one of the reasons I left, because how can you be judged or scored on work you have not done or want to do?? as you say outrageous. It really is just a self regulating and money making company now IMO. Once Kevin has got his knighthood I'm sure he sell up. The champion of the common people? yeah right.

Yeah it's a load of BS but sometimes you gotta join em to beat em IMO. It's working for us. Old people,, that's all they've got to go on and it's better than nothing however you look at it.

As I say I just back all my work up with photos with signs etc. in and I'm careful which customers I choose. Nowadays I go in with the view the customer has to prove to ME they are the right customer for the job lol.
