Stuff I'm particularly interested in is bricklaying, timber frame construction, block paving, resin bonding, especially intricate stuff and design and planning. If it's really interesting and you dont want me touching it I will mix up muck all day as long as I can see what's going on. More than happy to labor of course as long as the piss is not taken.
Me - Not young, 36, basically run a garden maintenance and fencing company with my bro which is going really well but I'm bored and I don't have time to go on courses, nor do I necessarily value them.
I'm an alright dude, know the value of a days work and am very fit, (jog and stuff) and do a pretty hard job already. I've got quite a lot of experience in different things, not necessarily building. I can chat your ears off but I can also shut up and get on with it.
Anyway it's bloody free, what could possibly go wrong
I'm moving house in a month so gotta pay 6 months rent in advance, hence currently working 7 days a week so am thinking about a month away

To try and learn all the stuff you are on about would take a long time and commitment. Why don't you and your brother take on someone who can multi task and price jobs that involve what you need to know and learn as you earn ???
As LLL says; fair play to you but i don't think voluntary work is yhe way forward for you.
I'm only working 7 days a week atm cos I need the money and the work is there for it. I don't plan on doing it for more than the next 4 to 6 weeks. My move isn't massive cos I've got a 2 month overlap so it can be done gradually.
the resin bonding is usually carried out by specialist contractors
same with timber framing
what we (my team) carry out is groundworks, concrete work,steel work,bricklaying,patios and drives
this is fairly normal for most small to medium builders around here
we have chippies,spreads ,sparks and plumbers but we rarely work along side them
working for free is not right
I have a fella similar as you right now,he drives at the weekends but he is doing brickwork at college
so for 2-3 days a week he comes in on labourers money and we have him do 80% labouring and let him joint up ,lay the odd course,just get a feel for how its run
Cheers LLL. I think you are right I am being too broad. Resin bonding is not a massive interest I just see it getting more and more popular. People around the forest often want the gravel/ aggregate look and permeability but not the untidyness.
Timber work is a real interest. I built a bespoke verandah a couple of years ago which the customers are very happy with to this day. No signs of wear. It stressed me out cos I'd never done anything at all like it before but enjoyed it also. I also build myself a chunky kingsize loft bed and really enjoyed it apart from it cos me a fortune and I could have just bought one lol.
Bricklaying and foundation work is just something that I would benefit in life to know about and I could add small scale stuff to my portfolio. All these things I do already have a limited knowledge off, not totally cold so to speak.

And you are right LLL. A laborers wage would help cos it would mean I could 4-8 days a month perhaps and learn faster if nothing else. But I'd just like to learn so not essential if it's a couple of days a month.
