Hello,

New to forum but have read site for a while and find it well written and interesting.

I'm not a paver but do work in gardens.

Don't know if any of you guys do maintenance work ie spraying weeds on driveways and patios etc but here goes..........

Was hoping I could get advice about a weed I'm struggling to kill. It's called MARCHANTIA but is sometimes called umbrella liverwort. It's a low growing weed and not as obvious or offensive as some. I don't have any photos but there's plenty on google images. It's possibly not one of the better known weeds but I reckon most of you guys will of seen it at some point.

Glyphosate based weed killers don't seem to kill it and read online that if you add fairy liquid to sprayer this will kill it by the fairy liquid helping penetrate it's waxy cover. I've tried this and although there's been some colour change I don't believe weed is dead.
I've got block paving wire brush that removes it but leaves blocks scored. Pressure washer removes it too but leaves areas clean compared to the rest and people often don't want to pressure wash entire drive to get rid of few weeds.

Can anyone offer advice on how to spray it and kill it?

Thanks.

We've had some success with a new chemical Icade, which is pretty good at clearing most things that Glyphosate won't touch.

Thanks for that tommy. Will look into it although had a quick look online but couldn't see price online.

Have you ever used "NEW WAY WEED SPRAY"? Sounds really good but really expensive to , £55 for ten litre, says it's mixed 3 parts water to 1 part product, think that works out at £16.50 to fill 12 litres in a spray tank at cost price before profit. EXPENSIVE!!!!

Claims on a hot day you can see weeds wilt in 2 hours and dead in 1 or 2 days. Seen product called "MIXTURE B" it's an accelarent and helps penetrate waxy weeds, it only needs mixed at 2% of total water volume, £50 ish for 5 litre so would go quite far fairly cheaply.

Thanks

Liverwort is not actually a weed which is why weedkiller will not touch it. Its an algae of sorts. There are several things you can do.
You can spray with a mix of sodium hypochlorite and baby shampoo,(r and a pressure wahsing can advise) you can pressure wash it off,or you can flame gun it.
Where exactly are you as this can be a problem in certain parts

As dig says its not a weed which is why weedkiller didn't work.

Any moss killer will help kill it.
