I know it is hard to get rid of and what the experts say to do, use etc: Was wondering if anyone had any other ideas for getting shut of it?

I cut it just above the first ring, poke down it with a screwdriver then fill it with roundup.
Did this on some a few years ago and it hasn't grown back.

Don't mix it too strong either as it will scold it and not seep right in, i just mixed it as it said on the tin.
Get well covered up and use a decent mask, the barbs off them can give a nasty rash and get on your birds nest.

The official anti-JKW methodology is to remove ALL soil within 6m of the infestation - that's 6m all around and 6m deep - sieve it to remove any JKW stem, leaf, root etc., then sterilise it at high temp to kill off *any* life form, before mixing the sterilised and JKW/organism free soil with soil or composted material from a known JKW-free site to reintroduce essential soil micro-fauna.
The round-up method usually works though, as long as it's just a single plant or two.

I have owned a house since 1992 with JKW in the garden
the ground is chalk and the JKW has basically stayed where it is
the tenants are happy so i leave it be

where i am cutting i can now see old shoots that have been done with the same process and they are dead so maybe it'll be a labour of love/hate. good job i enjoy a challenge. surely LLL if they are renting it becomes their responsibility ???

I imagine as the house was built in 1890 it has been there a long time
they like it ,I am ambivalent so there are no losers
i feel the chalk must slow it down

Don't be fooled by dead shoots. Its a perennial weed so all growth dies back over winter. This does not mean it has been successfully killed.
You can get grazon from progreen, pitchcare etc
Scimitar is being touted as a very effective killer for it too as tordon the most used chemical has now been withdrawn.
Any 'woody' weedkiller will be more effective than roundup. SBK etc which are much easier to get in small quantities and therefore cheaper

We've just taken on some new stuff called ICADE, which is supposed to the dog's bits for woody stuff and knotweed.
It's basically Timbral but re-engineered to be a bit less harmful and doesn't stink.
We've had to have a manufacturer recommended training session, which the trainer reckons will be standard with any new chemical product

DDD is it advisable to mix different chemicals together? I assume it is tried, tested and no explosions? Lol. Short story long.....I cut it down, treated it as said. Tried burning it but a bit wet so cut it up smaller. By now I'm stinking of it and smoke, went indoors to put up a shelf and an elec' cable running at an angle to the main....fecking bang. Lucky me no shock, god knows why. Blew the boiler etc so no hot water. Washed best I could and on train this morning could still smell it all. Bloody lanlord trying to blame me. From gang box rising a metre it is running 6 inches out. Scary.

sean statutory safe zone around all sockets is 150mm vertical and horizontal also 150mm from any ceiling line or floor line
if the cable is outside of that hes wrong
