I am sure Mick will be along soon to tell you himself but......
Big congratulations to brew cabin paving maestro Mick Gammage. Winner of another National award at the Marshall Register Awards on Monday night.
Second year running Mick has won one of the top awards.
In my opinion, Micks patio was one of the best quality installations I have ever seen (from photos) and I think it should have won the overall prize.
Unfortunately, my entries were not chosen for this years awards but from the photos I have seen, the entries were fantastic quality
Anyway, well done Mick. You better get planning permission in for that trophy room extension !!

Thank Nigel, got another national award and I believe we are getting the new Makita 4 stroke saw complete with water suppression unit
this is a video of the patio

the rear garden from start to finish
Yeah your right Tony, finally got to meet Matthew and his wife from Brockstone and George from bigdiggroundworks who I have not seen for about 2 years so it was good to meet up again, we were the last men standing at about 4.30am but still up for breakfast at 9.30am
everyone who was there on Monday evening would of been a worthy winner as the standard goes higher and higher each year

looks great mick, top job
do you do most the detail work yourself or a good set of lads
im finding as i get busier and get more guys getting them to do the fine detail bits even in construction and concrete work that make the difference is hard work despite telling them that'll do wont do.

great job mick well deserved
that is a very unconventional build
lot of unusual detail there
was the ground there very bad?
we havent been allowed to return block work over cavities for 10 years in the dirtee south?
I think dermobate is garbage but they insist we use it
nice to see the site clean and tidy at all times
cheers LLL

Thanks Giles, as far as I can gather no one is winning national awards with 10 blokes on their books, working to a few millimetres tolerance is not scalable so we have no choice but do most of the work ourselves
Thanks Tony, it was inspected prior to plastering and passed by the BCO as always
ground not that bad why do you asked have you spotted something ?

no just very unconventional
for us both skins of brick and block are up to dpc and the cavity backfilled before any stone is installed
I cant see the point of a weed membrane ?
when using kingspan now you have to have 2 DPMs one above and 1 below it
dry hip/verge/and ridge are all the rage now and rightly so as zero maintenance, but to my mind they never look good on big profile tiles
in fact the pitch looks that low I am surprised you didnt have to use centurions
no big points just different techniques for different areas
cheers LLL

the roof on the front elevation is actually 13.6 degrees and both sides are 15.2 degrees so we used Redland roof tiles what go down to 12.5 pitch and all the roof was double felted, the dry hip was a combination of Marley hip batten with Redland hip tiles so the colour matched the tiles, Redlands version of hip batten is the roll out crap what looks terrible
weed membrane was used due to millions of small roots where the existing soil borders used to be

Oz? It's Chorley New Road in Bolton!
Admittedly, it's the smartest part of Bolton, where they actually get out of the bath when they need a pee, but it's helluva long way from Oz!
Surely it can't be any coincidence that so many Brew Cabin Irregulars win these top awards, can it?
Unfortunately, I can't publish the winners' list because the Marshallettes didn't give me any warning to reserve a space in my news schedule, as other awards do's do. By the time the next free page comes around (end of April), it's old news. I told them all this last year, but they've obviously slept since then!
But congrats to all those that walked off with a trophy.
