And one of life's true gentlemen - you never hear a bad word about him, and in an age when even modestly talented hoofers can become multi-millionairres overnight, his skills and the way he conducted himself throughout his career should be served up as an example of how to be a *professional* footballer.

Watch on YouTube how he could control what we used to call 'a casey' football. Think what he'd have done with one of the modern super-techno balls!

Never heard of the guy before until here and now on sports pages. Fair play, he had a good innings though, ok wrong sport but he certainly went into extra time.

Seen a couple of his performances on BBC webpage certainly looked the ultimate footballer of his era.

From the BBC website....

England legend Sir Stanley Matthews, who died in 2000, once said of Finney: "To dictate the pace and course of a game, a player has to be blessed with awesome qualities.

"Those who have accomplished it on a regular basis can be counted on the fingers of one hand - Pele, Maradona, Best, Di Stefano, and Tom Finney."

....that's not a bad line-up, by anyone's standards!
