After tony mc said about was it his dad or uncle having a 25kg bag of sugar in the cab for breakdowns in a concrete truck I tried it on a small 100mm cube in a concrete test mold. It definetly weakens it and stopped it a setting properly.

It was the Father-in-Law, who drove a half-cab wagon with a donkey engine for Tilcon (am I making you feel old yet???) who always had the sugar in his cab.
I had my own problems with sugar and concrete when we worked on the new Vimto factory 20 years ago!
And think: if sugar can do this to concrete, imagine what it can do to your body!
