I am one of four houses with graveled drives that hang off a communal graveled driveway and want to keep the drive travelled so it fits in with everyone else's.

I need a short section of hard standing right in front of the garage so I can wheel my motorbike out more easily with enough room to turn it around.

My drive is about 25 feet and the gravel is large and coarse.

Ideally I would like a hard surface but I have noticed that with heavy downpours that pools of water can form over the gravel.

So maybe I should stick with a porous material like hoggin or a very fine gravel immediately in front of the garage.

Any suggestions folks ?

maybe using stabilising grid within the gravel? your side stand still won't be stable but the wheeling and turning will be much better.

Nothing like a gravel rashed fairing to ruin your day.

Thanks r896neo that's a very good idea !

I like the look of this one http://www.coregravel.co.uk/products/coregravel-gravel-stabilisation as it has a porous bottom and they suggest the translucent colour will get lost in the gravel.

This is not my field so what I am going to ask might sound silly !

Could I use horticultural grit as if it all gets packed into the cells I would think it would create a nice hard base.

Or should I use 10mm gravel ?

Depends how big the grit you can get is really. Often hort grit is just extra course sharp sand but if you could get 5mm ish stone it would be better. Finer stuff will hold dampness and general dirt more easily and therefore be much more prone to weeds and moss.
