Had an enquiry regarding the groundworks for a four bedroom house.

The client doesnt want a site meeting, i dont know wether she is nervous, shy, disabled, scared of contractors or whatever. She just wants me to price off a drawing, covering all bases.

Obviously the price will be massive, i mean how do i know if there is any initial site clearance, reduce level dig, foul connection...on site or in the road, the list is endless.

Also no spec is being given she just says she has building regs? I take i am to price the job according to what is required by building regs?

Anyone experienced a customer not wanting to have a site meeting? Very odd.

Done it a couple of times, never got the work because I way overpriced it so I didn't get stung by any hidden variables that I couldn't see by not doing a site visit.

Sounds like fishing to me. To save time you could quickly just send an RFI about your queries and see if you get a serious reply. It's hard to walk away from a query like that but as already mentioned could be a serious time waste

RFI?

I could still put in a price, and outline what is/isnt included in that price?

Price it cheap, with the final quote explaining subject to site visit. Could even be local compition getting his wife to call you for a price so the pther guy can make sure he is in the right ball park figure

RFI : request for information

Quick email requesting the info you need and if no reply then that's it.

I have priced 3 block and beam foundations recently.. I could smell a rat when I was asking for all the information ! I passed the job the other day and the Brikie who asked me to price it was in a 5t machine digging it out ......
