My house has this coal bunker / Pantry thing that you access from outside! and is directly underneath stairs!

Im getting cavity wall insulation installed on the 28th and I thought I could maybe make a stud wall behind door and get em to fill it with insulation. The only problem is, at the bottom of this cavity is the earth wire from the fuse box to a ground rod (there is another earth wire curled up the side?) Now not sure what to do...... If I cover ground rod would this cause a problem?

In regards covering the earth wire / earthing rod, you are best getting an electrician in to look at the supply you have to the house.

If you Google TT, TNCS and TNS it will explain in far greater depth and with images, and your supply might be / use a TT earth / protective earthâ€¦that rod might be the protective path to earth for your house.

And although after a read around you could check / make an educated guess about the earthing arrangements / supply you have, testing the resistance would be wise, hence the advice of getting an electrician inâ€¦you could have that TT earth in addition to other arrangements, and due to impedance being high on the other earth from the supply. It might also be possible for the electrician to place this rod elsewhere, or depending upon your area etc and local DNO, get it replaced with a different arrangement such as TNCS / PME.
