Arite all, im a brickie an ive been doing it about 10 years now. Me an the other brickie i work with have never advertised or had a company name, weve always got work through word of mouth.

I think its time we had a name to go by an had signs an sign written vans.
So its time to think of a name.

Just wondering what things you felas/girls would advise for ideas for a company name?

Were basically brickies at the min, but wouldnt rule out taking on extensions, new bulids in the future.

Thanks for reading an any help an,advise would be welcome.

Your county and the word brickwork. Best thing when it comes to internet search engines.

Sussex brickwork etc

i would'nt worry about it too much, if your getting plenty of work. i would say you need a board outside your site with a phone number on it. just have tom smith brickwork and construction on it. then when you fall out with your mate its your name that is on the advert.

Cheers for the replies, as LPAD said, the county then brickwork probably works best.

Do you think its best to keep the signs simple? Or have a bit of detail e.g saying the type of work we do, eg new build, extensions, stonework etc?

Probably daft questions, just wanted to get do's an donts from the experts on here who've been at it for donkeys.

Cheers

traditionally most building firms are either a name then the trade
i.e. smith builders,jones carpentry
or a combo of the partners names
i.e. smith and jones builders, danaher and rolls,
or of course family
smith and son/s jones brothers

then of course location based

3 shires construction
home counties builders

when it gets to 3 partners its gets tricky
so the initials get used or the names get cut and shut
so we are TDF builders (tony, dave and frank)
but we could have been Tovenk builders

people seems to like the above formats

occasionaly some bright spark tries out a snazzy name but it rarely lasts
seem to remember a blue tree construction near berko a few years ago

people are spending a lot of money so I would stick with tradition

The majority of customers will find you online. We used to be called livingstone and when we changed to London Stone, almost overnight we started flying up the google rankings

Theres no doubt that these days maybe 90% of clients now turn to an internet search engine to find services. Failure to see that and act accordingly will cost you work opportunitys on a daily basis theres no doubt about that.

You could spend a small fortune getting your natural ranking up using costly methods or use a sensible name like london stone and let your customers and other people browsing do the work for you for free.

I've been experimenting with a mate of mine for this very reason to create a name that is search friendly. Although my own company name was a natural selection, as that is what I do!
This video This video we posed returns at the top of Google search based purely on the name we choose
