Just a heads-up. Twenty squids for leather riggers, black or tan available. Zap this post if its not to policy LLL, but I thought we could all do with decent boots coming up to winter.

Admittedly, they do a better job up scaffold, but theres nothing better than riggers for a treacle thick mud-locked site. They are clumsy too. Nice and toasty when your taking them off to go home.

Riggers are increasingly forbidden on the more H&S orientated sites.
I was visiting a large paving manufacturing facility last year and got told 'no riggers' when I reported to reception, but not to worry as they had bought a job lot of compliant steelies for occasions just like this. Lovely new pair of boots, straight out of the box, lots of tissue paper, new laces, the lot!
Wore them around the factory for the next 7 hrs, and half-expected to take them away with me at the end of the day. After all, who wants to wear somebody else's boots when they've been trudging around a big paving plant all day?
Think again! They were taken from me, the muddy outsides rinsed under a tap, and put back in the box! Tight bar stewards who will remain nameless....for now.

The lad that works with me got a pair of these from Asda in Leigh

He only paid a tenner as they were on special offer, and swears down they are the best pair he’s owned.

yeah,i was told it is lack of ankle support
i like the chelsea boot style,havent worn lace ups for a long time,the cement rots the laces and stitching

I had this on a site ages ago, I think I mentioned oit on here. All riggers were banned as a guy on site had a twisted ankle in them............he didn't say he was playing footie on break at the time ???
They said it was for 'ankle support boots' lace up type only. I did ask if they had a 'bootlace monitor' to ensure the ankle as fully supported, just got a blank look off the H+S guy

funny enough,I have never twisted an ankle in 28 years on site
must be lucky i guess
most accidents i have seen are the 16-21 age group

Trotting over broken brick and the like for 12 hours a day does tend to strengthen your ankle to olympic proportions, the HSE seem to over look this little fact :;):

This is a classic example of over-nannying. There's lots of H&S rules that are good and will make the building trade a safer place to earn a living, but twisted ankles? FFS! None of us went into this game thinking it was a nice, easy, risk-free way to earn a few quid.
What about wellies? If I'm down a waterlogged trench installing a pipe run or bottoming out a footing ready for concrete, I can't be wearing lace-up boots, and wellies are notorious for their lack of ankle support!

On MWH and Skanska sites working for Severn Trent riggers are banned and wellies are only allowed if a disclaimer has been signed....believe it or not!
