Hi guys, not popped in for a while (busy at work and trying to be a little more sociable at home and not be on the puter all night) but thought I'd share something with you.
Attempting to take down a b'staad leylandii in the garden - it's in a slightly awkward spot so we're having to do it bit by bit.
Anyway, the usual chainsaw is just a bit to unwieldy (and slightly dangerous) to work in the area we've got so I found a B&D Alligator lopper on Ebay (wonderful bit of kit - really, surprisingly good), but I digress. So, I've tied a long bit of rope around one of the boughs, given the other end to the Mrs to hang on to and keep the tension on so I can work on the cut without worrying about where the thing is going to fall.
So, up the ladder, cutting away and I hear it creak - great, it's about to go - look to the Mrs - she's in a land of her own, rope slack, not even looking! PULLLL!!! I cry as the bough starts to swing towards me. She looks up and applies a bit of tension. PULLLLLLLLL!!!! She puts a tiny bit more effort in to it and the thing just whizzes past me and ends up in the old bamboo.
I then spend the next few minutes explaining to her why it would have been better if she'd been paying a little more attention and wondering whether she realised the point of a tension line was to keep the tension on beforehand rather than to raise tension afterwards!
She then has her say - turns out I was wrong and she hates working with me. Remainder of tree-felling postponed - it may be risky cutting boughs when she's around but it'd be lunacy to attempt it single-handed!
Go figure ...
