Just watched this on C4, a couple had a 100 year old house (theyd just bought) with failing concrete. The bint presenting the show did a bit demonstration on 'how to mix concrete' to highlight the problems being experienced.
Water :check
Aggrigate:check
Cement:check
Building sand????
She then went to bash nails into a purlin adjoining the failing wall causing it to crumble further, 'Oh, I'd better continue with screws' .....as you should have to begin with. ??? ??? ???

Someone's actually being paid to research and advise on these shows :O
Just amazes me how the basics of building are still not understood by the folks on TV.

All these shows need is a woman with huge cans to front it wearing tank tops. Nobody cares about the content of the program.

She ( Sarah Beeny ) is a very succesful property developer in her own right, that is why ( apart from the big t*** ) is why she presents the show.

it always helps when your dad is a very wealthy architect
she has done well god bless her,but at a guess she has bankrupted more people than the dot com bubble with her advice on making money through property
the prices she talks about on her shows are unrealistic

I'd say you'd be right there Tony the number of people who've taken a chance and lost everything as a result of overconfidence from watching these programs is probably very high. Some of the f#ckwits on her show don't deserve to breathe let alone own a house though when you look at the mistakes they make.

I can never understand how they can spend the money on the property but never on a survey? As far as I can see all these programs show you is what happens if you don't use professional advice,at least if a pro fecks up you got some chance of getting your money back!

surely they must be set up from day one. You phone the tv company, tell them you will buy a wreck and you can film me in a few months when i start ''finding faults.'' but you have to pay for putting it right and i will stay stum

the bank wouldn't have loaned against an unsurveyed house, so it begs the question How did they end up with it? the surveyor should have be bummed and summarily sued till he runs out of rent boys or as Sean said it a bit of smoke and mirrors, so C4 pay for one of their mateys to have a hovel rebuilt.

i know 2 gangs that have worked on 2 unnamed makeover shows
both said what the viewer sees is total and utter bollocks
out of view there are squads of fully kitted out trades and containers full of gear
its a charade and a painful lesson for joe public when they try and project manage a job in the same manner and come unstuck

the best time to do up houses is when the market is rising,i wonder why that is???
