Ash before oak we're in for a soak oak before ash we're in for a splash.Oak trees were out first so by rights we're in for a decent summer. I wouldn't bet the family silver on these tales but there must be something in them probably at a regional level not nationally. I've heard a few over the years and they tend to be fairly spot on. Anyone else got any thoughts about them.

something about this in the times the other week ,but the essence was as britain becomes warmer in general then the oak and beech will always be later than ash as they are temperate trees

I reckon their's something in old sayings, folk memory perhaps. Some are just superstitous nonsense( seeing 1 magpie for instance), but most related to Natural events, and come from our agricultural past and from how people understood their enviroment and passed on knowledge, before widespread literacy.

the magpie one has some truth in it mick as magpies are normally found in 2 's , farmers etc love to kill them so its unlucky for 1 of the birds if there is only 1 of them

"don't bite the hand that feeds you"
Never seems to have the desired reaction when said to one's Mrs after some "essential purchase" shopping though does it?
