If I can get the 4 wheel drive in then I pull out stumps in a similar way. I always cut it down to a decent sized stump first though and if there are any concerns at all about ground heaving then I don't.

working on a Drive just after the B'ham Tornado(about 5 year ago) and the neighbours had a damaged Cherry Tree took down. one of my Lad's was making Tea in the clients shed, when the "Tree surgeon" who we'd seen smoking a spliff in his cab about 10 mins before, hinged the top third of the Tree straight thru the shed me mate was standing in, nearly had him and knocked the Tea over. The shed was in bits, me labourer was a tad cross! The Tree guy mumbled an apology and him and his mate legged it, left the Limb swinging and our clients with no Shed or fence and our tea gone. They caught up with him and made him pay for the lot, Twat.

Could've sued for negligence. Any tree climber, has to, have a qualified groundsman, who is responsible for making the area secure, and passing tools up to the climber.

I did some training with a Tree surgeon, he was 30, and his back was knackered, had the cartilage in both his knees removed when a section of tree swung and pinned him the crown of the tree.

Funny how I was always willing to climb a tree with ropes, but now I wont even touch a ladder whatsoever

suggers, was that tree surgeon matt rand, wolf tree surgery or the j and d clark crew?

The spliff story is nothing new. there is a bunch round here, everyone calls "bodge it and lash". Long haired hippies, who smoke a joint and then climb a tree. and they are on the council list ffs!

a former colleague of mine once retorted a story of how he got a couple of tree surgeons in to do job even though he knew better and lacked confidence in them (i think opportunity and price had something to do with it), anyway they had just arrived and were unloading the van, chainsaw came out and was put on the floor first bloke leans back in van, second bloke grabs chainsaw on floor and tries to start it, it starts jumps/kicks up and tears first bloke a new ar5eh0le, needless to say no further work was carried out by these guys that day or any other!

Should treat a chainsaw like a firearm....don't load it till you need to use it and keep your finger off the trigger until it's pointed at the intended target. Also proper ppe.
