i went looking for a video on youtube and discovered to my dismay that you are now forced to have a google account.
I really do NOT like being told what to do (especially by some spotty septic) and will now follow the age old english tradition of having a cuppa tea and swearing a lot
I used to like google, in fact i used the beta version
but if they think I am giving them personal info so they can spam me they can take a running jump
cocksuckers!!!
going to mail them and get my house took off street view
maybe george orwell had a point
the people they started off trying to be different from they have become
up yours google
i need a new homepage, was thinking of the BBC but then i remembered all the threatening letters i got when i didnt have a TV for 3 years (choice before you start)
any suggestions for a plain home page?
cheers LLL

Hi LLL,
The BBC does not chase the licence money, its contracted out to part of the post office.
The BBC has a good front page but I may be biased

Bing runs on ad revenue, you can search a straight term and because its so weighted by cash, you'll end up a universe away from what your looking for, Google, best of a bad bunch Im afraid

the thing is the tone of the letters was every increasing threats
i rang them once and explained i didnt have a tV and they asked why not?
I said "what do you think mankind has done for the last 9940 years before Tv was invented?"
anyway after that i ignored their drivel
got a license and tv now but rarely watch it
to my mind you should be able to opt out of BBC ,channel4 news is nearly on a par, why should the bbc get money by threats?
when my wife has a market stall they wanted her to have a tv license ??
really got the bee in my bonnet tonight about big business hehe

no i want something like alta vista used to be
very very plain and just a search bar
the privacy problem with google is that if you link your youtube account to your google account they are basically monitoring everything you do online for marketing purposes
and you cannot unlink it===> ever
when tim berners lee invented the net he didnt patent it for the simple reason he wanted it to be free and accessible for everyone
sadly like the rest of the world , the moneymen have got their claws into it and bought or zapped all the opposition
give it 10 years and all we will have is microsoft google and facebook

I Know mate, I'm trying to sort this years advertising out and everything leads to paying a load out to Google!! Even Yell push Google advertising. I,m going to just keep my cash and sort my SEO's out myself. When the poor sales rep for Yell tried to show me how I was nowhere online, up I popped first page everytime he searched. He then still tried his best to say it must of been a freak stroke of luck and I still needed to part with over £3,500.00 worth of Advertising!! not so sure meself...George orwell was right, but we've all let it happen, as the book says, and there isn't a lot you can do about it.

Just create a spam account and use that I have one for signing up for websites but never read the mails etc unless you have to authorise etc then keeps your main address spam free

I seem to remember that last year, it was logging into your youtube channel, they suddenly wanted your gmail password?
I think just surfing with no log-in is still normal? ???

no its called 'linking accounts' its not compulsory, but it helps to show people you talk to through g-mail what you like/ have viewed.
Pretty good IMHO, does most of the 'sharing' work for you :;):

sadly i would rather not share my tastes with others
also it allows google to follow you even more closely online
the rise of the machines indeed
