Total doom and gloom from Jockland, the government tells us how important it is that the private sector should be doing all they can to create jobs, particularly in the 17-21 age sector, where they are all currently un-employed.

Eh! hold on a minute- business currently is fooked and most if not all are currently scratching an existence,to what benefit would it be,to a struggling industry to employ the most work-shy, selfish and useless b'stards in the history of the construction trades ?

Did make me laugh, but seriously, i was the dogs dangalies at that age (or so I thought) I bet the rest of the guys were saying the same about me.

No ones perfect and having an apprentice or laborer always enlivens any site IMHO, if not for work ,just for comedy value :D

And Im not being flippant, I know how bad things are, but I think we are in for the long haul, so lateral thinking may be way of seeing it though out.

The solution to unemployment among the young and useless is to scrap the minimum wage and enable me to employ jimmy waste of space for £45 a week, cos thats all your worth to me for the next two years, until your fit enough to hold a shovel wheel a barrow and actually make any money for 7.5 hrs a day you fat, dirty little b'stard.

thats the reason why i currently only employ poles, a race of people that seems to be have been, for some reason, nurtured with some kinda work ethic.

and another thing - when are these a-holes who tender at cost or below going to go out of business? i'm sick of getting hammered on price by these half wits who are running the construction equivalent of a ponzi scheme simply to make the re-payments on their wives X5 and 200k house extension.

hope they soon go the way of garvis snook and get the flock outaa here.

state of the economy in the london area is there are quite a few jobs knocking about but nothing great moneywise . the days of working 7.30 till 4 for 150 a shift have gone in paving jobs and brickys jobs. more realistic is 11 pound an hour for paving on a building site ,110 a shift paving on the streets. brickies 120 a shift is the average. machine drivers 11 quid an hour .anyone who wants a job paving outside u.k that swedish crowd are looking for pavers, www.southerncross.se.also anyone who works paye for anyone and has to pay their own travel can claim their expenses back dating back the last six years . p.m for details

i think the problem is bobbi, higher education

anyone with 2 braincells gets whisked off to college/uni for a 2 bob degree

the flotsam and ne'er do wells get lumped at the building game

when i got to 16 I had to work, and i had to give my mum 35% of my wages till i left home
I know lads now who are 25-35 giving their mum £30 a week

also in those days, the choices were vauxhall and associated factory type stuff, building trades (brickie chipie sparks etc) or clerical or work in an office

so you had 3 choices and if your mum and dad had money you could go to uni(about 1 in 20 then) mine didnt

nowdays benefits are the 4th choice, along with a myriad of nearly useless educational courses designed to massage the unemployment figures

2011 is going to be a bastard of a year for us I fear. With rising fuel and energy costs that impact on EVERYTHING in our lives - it's going to be a tough one.

Modern technology and mothers are ruining the kids today. They have done everything before they are 12 these days...sex, drugs, happy slapping etc: We used to be dragged out of the w****** pit by our dads and made to go to work ( even if you did'nt have a job ). They stay up all night on their gadgetry, so are knackered in the morning. I remember staying up, night clubbing etc; having a couple of hours kip, then going to work. Had to put money into the household. Ever notice how the majority of kids walk now....bent knees, slouched shoulders at about half a mile an hour, unless their mammy is dropping them off as usual. Don't even get me started on their attitude. :p

If you read this stuff, in the cold light of day, we have turned into our parents.

I'm giving the building game up to become a gigolo hehe

I'm 29 but from secondary school I've be on site every holiday etc earning from like 30 a day sweeping up brewing up etc to more and more skilled physical work as I got older

Kids nowadays do think they are owed a living, one of my best mates boyfriends is a union rep for unite I've been jibbing him for a while to come do a week as a self-employed labourer see if he'd moan as much about how hard they have it ;)
