Dear Tony and ALL
Once again you will hear the dreded words PIC drive ways, fortunatley we are still in the process of deciding Tarmac, block paving or PIC. I have read some of your reports on PIC's and would like to ask if any of your members have had any work carried out by Traditional Paving Ltd. If so would they recommend them?
We have been quoted £12,850 to do a 195 square metre area (£66.24 per sq m). Is this a reasonable cost???

That aint a bad price i usually charge £65 a sq metre for concrete projects.
I am not a fan of PIC myself, i think block paving is better due to the fact you can lift it if you need to at anytime.
PIC is a Fad which i think will probably die out it also is a night mare if you need to patch a area that has been dug up.

i have a pic drive, i noticed a neighbour had one done and she recommended Traditional paving. i got in touch with traditional paving, who have now fitted mine. its been down since dec 03, i have lots of admiring glances from passers by. My immediate neighbour has opted for a block pave drive which was cheaper but i am waiting to see how good mine looks in years to come compared to theirs. i am very happy with trad paving and i would recommend them

Rather than canvass opinion on one company, you really ought to get prices from at least 3 companies, ensuring that, as far as possible, they are all quoting for the same work, and then compare and contrast, as they used to say in the school exams. It's not just a matter of price, but of who offers the best overall service.
That involves not just the specification, but the confidence a contractor inspires. What guarantee do they offer? Have they been around a while or have they sprung up over the last 12 months? What sort of after-installation care do they offer? Can they give you addresses of previous work that you can visit? Are they linked to any trade organisation?

Thank you for your reply.
We are in the process of getting quotes from other contractors. The trouble we have is finding reputable contractors up here in the north (seems all this type of work is carried out South of Watford Gap?)
So if you or any of your members have any northern recommendations/experiences on PICs we would appriciate the information.
We have been informed that a company who supplies the concrete PICS is the place to go for quality contractors - any truth in this and do they have a website?
One thing I will say is that there seems to be quite a bit of "Slagging the competitors" in this field of work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although there are lots of contractors doing imprint work in the south of Eng-er-land, I've never noticed a shortage of them in the north, or in Scotland and Wales. I know a few contractors in the north-west, but Leeds is a bit off my patch, to be honest.
PICS are one of the largest (if not the largest) suppliers of materials, tools and training for the imprinted concrete industry in the UK. And yes: they do have a website and their full contact details are given in the Decorative Concrete Links section of the main website.
