Who knows on the pre-mix, it might be a time saver as the chap normally works alone I think - all I know is that is sets like rock :) Path done, wall on the way, I think the planting may be today and tomorrow. The path is lovely, really impressed with it all completed!

It's all done with stone, they didn't just fill the gaps ;) I think the stone work side of things is what the company enjoys doing the most from the hardscape point of view. The green bin will magically transform into a nice new BBQ over the weekend, the wall is kind of a seating bit for anyone who wants to chat to the chef whilst they cook :)

Do you guys not use ready-mix mortar for laying flags? If its more than 20m/sq i usually do. Screed mixed up wet with some plasticiser in it, delivered into tubs with 24 hour retarder.

It depresses me when you make up a gauge in the wee belle only to see most of it disappear under 2 large flags.

we used 5 tonne of sand and 25 cement yesterday, another day it might be 1 and 5 or 8 and 40
I like the freedom of the mixer
like i say never saw anyone using them on a domestic down here

Get yourself a bigger mixer :) we use a belle 200xt one mix is about 3 barrow fulls

But sometimes washing out and the associate mess is a problem with mixers

The wall works well within the overall view, looks a little out of place in photos! Today is the day for completion - the fencing contractors are back in today to re-measure the rear gate, they left a very large gap at the bottom and will be fitting a new gate of the right height so there's only a small gap underneath where the GT guys are putting a flag/paver of some form. Turf going down once all the planting is done so they're not walking over the new grass.

The big flag and rocks are not staying there!

Planting trials - more to come I believe, and this is not the final layout:

I think its grand job.

But....the curve saw cut to the indian paving would be better finished with some matching edging setts. Just my IMO looks a tad unfinished.

Its a good finish. I would be very pleased with that. I think you have done really well for the money you have spent.

This post is a brilliant example of the whole process of employing a contractor. You did your homework, got a few quotes and chose the right contractor.

It's been a great few weeks :) We're over the moon with the end result and the contractors have been excellent to work with - even the neighbours have commented how pleasant they have been.

Work is 99% complete - the fencing contractor is replacing the gate for one with a much smaller gap at the bottom. Some piccies:
