That's the beauty of a skid steer mounted planer, plane off 30mm through the guts of the drive and 40 at the edges - , sweep & tack, regulate and relay - hey presto! New drive for not a lot of money.
Only any good if what is below is in good condition and the right thicknesses.

its the way i see it
My aim on this forum (apart from a bit of craic) as i stated on day 1 when i joined was to help misinformed people .
is it any wonder that tarmac has such a bad name ,when its difficult to hold anyone accountable for what they do?
I go the extra mile when at work and dont expect anyone to ever question my conscientiousness and skill levels, but if they do, I can back up everything I do,
and if i have fecked it up (it happens) then i take a deep breath and put it right
as I said to loudog if you or him lost out to these people by £200 on this job,how does that leave you feeling now?
and the OPs silence indicates that you were prolly right and they have done one, with his money
anyway enough of that, joinbrew cabin predictor pro and lets see who can win the world cup

Thought I'd better update this thread with was has been (very slowly) going on.
We received a letter from the contractors on Friday stating that the drive had been laid to British Standards etc and the correct material had been used. As we are not happy with the quality of the drive they are willing to resurface with a finer coat of tarmac to give us the finish we were expecting. They will do this in the next two weeks.
I agree with them that they have done the drive correctly and have used the correct materials (apart from the use of the sealing grit). The problem is that they have done a poor job of rolling the top surface.
Now I need to phone them to clarify what they mean by "resurface". It sounds like adding another layer on top of what is already there. Which is not acceptable. Apart from the fact that it is not the correct way of fixing the problem the tarmac is going to be considerably higher that the block edging.
They have been reasonable and willing to talk to us about it, albeit taking their time. But, I think to get the drive dug out and redone as it should is going to mean going to the small claims.
Cheers,
Mark

Cheers for the update Mark.
Digging up the drive isn't necessary - just removal of the surface course and relaying is properly is all that is required.

Another update.
The contractors have said that they will be removing the top course and relaying a new finer grade surface coat.
This is great news. They want to do it in a few weeks time and if the weather stays warm it should help them to make a better job of it this time.
Thanks alot for all your help. Hopefully I won't be posting on this thread again

Don't forget that you'll have to do one more post.
One that says it all went well.

Removal of 6mm wearing course laid over 20mm base course can be a right pain in the arse, I have had to rip the base up as well on occasion.
Are you sure they actually put 20mm base course down and its not just a bodge job 6mm wearing course straight over hardcore?
Have they actually repaired it yet?
