Longest thread? We had a thread way back in 2002 or 2003 that was more like a blog of a Brew cabin Irregular and the struggles he had building a patio over the course of the summer. I think it might be somewhere in the archives and, IIRC, it ran to well over 100 posts.

Obviously coming in to this way too late, but wanted to comment about a job I saw once, where the hardcore sat naked for a year. Some nasty, aggressive weed seeds must have moved in, lay dormant, and then GERMINATED the following spring, after new tarmac was finally laid. It pushed right up through tarmac.

It used to be standard practice to spray Sodium Chlorate before laying blacktop, but then there was some bureaucratic bollocks that meant the weedkiller sprayer had to be licensed and dressed up in an outfit that wouldn't look out of place in a nuclear winter, and more and more contractors decided it was simpler to omit the weedkilling from the spec.
