the day came and we decided to barrow in the concrete
the road was too tight for a pump and a volumetric
4 of us barrowed 7.75m3 in 90 minutes which i thought was good going considering the 150ft run and the mesh and ramp
just in at 9.30 AM
first hit with the little powerfloat at around 4pm
finished at 7pm
just in time to go and watch luton play bury
just got home and Mrs lout informed me it was our wedding anniversary
doh!

we had a T-bar with the receiver and the laser set to dpc
so we levelled it as we went
then its just a matter of time and patience
and experience
when the concrete could support a mans weight we sued the little one to take out any small dents or rises
then it was waiting for the point where you didnt leave bootprints
8 1/2 hours as it turned out
cheers LLL

did some finishing last week and started this wall tuesday
2 m boundary wall collapsed in feb,we now have the job to rebuild it properly
hand dig as the council wanted a £60 per metre bond in case of digger dame to the pavement
saw this block drive I did 22 years ago
I know its that long because the lady saw us and came out and she mentioned her daughter had her first baby while we did the drive and its that long
still looks ok but 22 years is scary :;):
lastly a lesson of why soakaways do not work in clay soil
this one is 1.5M 3 but its what building control asked for
when I asked what happens to the water he said it filtrates through the topsoil
cheers LLL

cracking job tony, did luton win?
what's with the walls on the garage, no cavity at all?
the joys of power floating we did a slab in November once took 3 days to get to the point of being ready to float
i pan it when my size 13 boot leaves a 1-2mm impression then polish it with paddles when you can put your hand on it and it comes away clean
ive bought a 900mm one but im after a little 600mm one the ride on ones are good fun as well.
heres the big 650m2 slab we did being floated
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWu_QM_fcUM&feature=youtu.be
ive been learning to slate/roof this week, me and my 23 apprentice joiner had to do it as my dads roofer to busy on with him ill post some pics up at the weekend,

we are finding that more and more recently giles
all our best blokes are being drawn down to london getting big money
£250 a day day work and even more on price, so the local money is up to £200 a day now
cant blame them as they have been on £140-160 for the guts of 10 years
I remember in the late 80s brickies money went from £35 a day to £70 a day in a matter of 3 years
the boom is most definitely back!

Any Groundworker worth their salt levels and steps a footing accordingly
The piss it up firing it in let it self sort out are for the cowboys so about 50% the building game lol
But it's always fun to make it a little hard for the brickies

Nice to see youve changed your tune giles. When I showed a picture of a stepped footing I'd done you said " just pour it and let the brickies sort it out"

Didn't you step it like 6 times across about 6 metres though?
Any major level changes where it's gonna be hard or unsafe for brickies then yes but that was overkill for them throwing a few commons in, wasn't it almost on the surface as well with your concrete not 200mm down for the frost if I remember but it was a while ago,
credit it to you for the pettiness though. Learning is always good, I like to try to learn something new everyday like not hiring expensive crushers out without any payment or credential checking.

my usual view luton versus plymouth
then this little baby turned up
and a new view after 30 years of buying bricks from dandys
a nice touch from them
back to basics on with the wall
nearly there only another thousand to go
why did I suggest flemish bond ???
it looks great but is so slow compared to stretcher bond
also on the subject of indian stone driveways i did this one before I even joined this forum (pre 2006) we laid it on 100mm of wet floor screed with cement over hardcore that was wacked
of course he wanted an extra row added later but it has held up well considering its 10 years old and he drive a shogun type motor
